When did this last air-- the '90s?? Watching these clips on YouTube takes me back to high school, when I actually thought painting black shadow up to my eyebrows and posing dramatically in front of walls of fake roses at Kmart was a cool look. The dark deranged realm of Azrael Abyss and Circe Nightshade (aka Todd and Stephanie of Tampa, FL) just naturally cries out for interpretation thru tarot cards. (Does anyone know if any Goth Talk skits are available on any of the Saturday Night Live DVDs? YouTube screencaps aren't very goth.)

Azrael Abyss, the Prince of Sorrow (Chris Kattan) and Circe Nightshade (Molly Shannon)-- They seem most fitting as the Emperor and Empress (or father and mother) of the madness and despair over which they reign supreme. However Azrael certainly has his origins as the Fool, and Circe seems to want to be the Star of her own pitch black night sky.

The Beholder (Rob Lowe)-- His personality is more like that of the Knight of Cups (artistic, introverted), like most Goths. However part four of "Dread Castle of Thornwall" didn't have any scenes where he was on horseback. (Maybe that was on the part his dad taped "Fraiser" over.)

Count Feedback (Jeff Goldblum) -- He's a rock star, yes he is! He really looks and sounds a lot like Danny Elfman in this skit.

Baron Nocturna (Will Ferrell) -- Azrael's dark brother in the black arts, and his co-worker at Cinnabon. He gets to be the Hanged Man, because he predicts being dead meat at school after Azrael's "funeral". Also because that was the only card left for him.

Death -- ...'Cause see, the song is called "Bela Lugosi's Dead", get it? And it's his grave, get it?? Ahhahahaaa, I'm so funnee....

The Sun -- illumines the public access station that airs "Goth Talk." Stay out of the daylight!...

Cinnabon -- Azrael's forlorn prison; a chamber of tortures known as the "real world", far removed from havens of depravity.

Todd Henderson (Azrael)-- 'nuff said.
Seriously, Todd looks like he was a pretty cheerful day-dweller at one point in his life. What bonechilling tragedy could have warped his soul enough to turn him from a Mickey-Mouse aficianado to the Prince of Sorrow?....

Glenn (Jim Breuer)-- Azrael's (Todd's) older brother is the definition of brute force, throttling his little bro and hassling his Goth brethren whenever he can. Ah, that explains it.

Hezebiah of the Dusk (Christina Ricci)-- As she prepares Azrael's (not really) dead body for its journey to the other side, she could be called a Priestess of sorts. And she does act like she's high.

Baroness Blackbroom (Lucy Lawless)-- the Heirophant is defined as one who is part of the crowd, who aids the Fool in becoming more like those around him, to fit in. By marketing her black wares to the people of Tampa, the Baroness is in the business of helping all those nonconformists to be alike.

Marla and Cody (Charlize Theron and Horatio Sanz)-- The Moon is the card of illusion, dazzlement, and trickery, and Marla and Cody are certainly looking to milk as much money as they can from tourists on their Blair Witch tour!

Tony Baloney (Steve Buscemi)-- This high school janitor/cellar dweller is the kind who keeps to himself on the fringes of society. And for that, society is unduly grateful.

Countess Cobwella (Sarah Michelle Geller)-- I really don't like SMG at all. So she's the devil in this deck. Nyeah. :P

Many thanks to all those who posted Goth Talk clips at YouTube. :)

cards; if I'm wrong, it's because they were wrong.
